Our school has 543 Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade students. It is a Title I school with a 100% minority population. As a Title I School 78% of the school’s families have income low enough to qualify their children to receive state subsidized free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Our school has a high rate of single parent households. Many parents work two or more jobs, odd shifts and therefore are not home in the mornings or after school. Siblings rely on each other to get ready for the school day, and often TV is their babysitter in the afternoon. The school community is plagued by high crime and poverty. As is typical for high poverty areas, violence and dropout rates are elevated. Our Behavior Program is targeted to reduce aggressive behavior and reward pro-social behavior beginning on the elementary school level.
