With a diverse population, many of my students are English learners, primary Spanish speaking. Some only speak Spanish at home, others have been reading, writing and speaking in Spanish for their entire lives. It is important that the library collection reflect the lives and language of the students in my school. An engaging collection, including popular titles printed in Spanish, will allow my English learners and general education students to explore the language that is all around them. ELs will be able to read English and Spanish texts side by side, to increase their comprehension and practice their skills. As an older school, many of our Spanish books are outdated, and my students would love to have current titles to enjoy!
