I am requesting littleBits STEAM Student Sets to make science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics come to life for my students. It will also assist them to build on their coding skills and may encourage them to select a career in the sciences. Using the combination of the littleBits, computer software, and engaging, standards-based projects students will be able to come up with their own projects and designs. Students will think critically and create electronic solutions to problems they see in their neighborhood. Based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) students will work in cooperative groups to engage in project-based learning to produce robotic creations, and use coding to program their robots to complete a specific actions and tasks. Students will then share their robotics creations to the school and explain the purpose, use and function of their electronic design. This in turn will encourage other students to explore and learn about STEAM, robotics and coding. These students need outlets to help them to be creative problem-solvers and these materials will equip them with the necessary STEAM knowledge and skills to be innovative and imaginative thinkers. By bringing littleBits technology to the classroom will help my students make abstract STEAM concepts tangible and will provide them with the necessary 21st century skills they need to be competitive in the future job market.
