I recently introduced the Rubik's cube to my 3rd grade resource class through a Rubik's cube lending program. Unfortunately, the Rubik's cubes have to be returned before I have been able to completely teach my students how to solve the cube. If we had a set to keep in our classroom I could finish teaching them and allow my 4th and 5th grade students to try to solve the cube. By teaching gifted students to solve the Rubik's cube I am teaching them thinking and problem solving skills, both of which are very important to be a 21st century learner. Students are also able to challenge themselves and continue to develop a growth mindset, since solving the cube is not often done on the first try. The students have enjoyed the challenge and are on fire for learning! By having a set of cubes in my classroom I could continue to teach other gifted students these important skills!
