I am asking for materials which I can put in an "Amygdala First Aid Station." In class we have learned how our amygdalas often times react to stress as a true threat, which in turn does not allow our prefrontal cortex to make positive choices. My students will use the materials in the first aid station to help them learn how to react to stress and anxiety BEFORE they feel too out of control, so that their amygdalas can relax and allow their prefrontal cortex to do it's job. The materials I’m asking for include noise cancelling headphones, two types of weighted lap pads, and some comfortable seating options. The headphones will allow students to minimize distractions, which is extra helpful because our school is open concept so sometimes there is a lot of noise! The weighted lap pads help students self regulate and calm their nervous system. The comfortable seating options give students an opportunity to relax.
