It is a great thing to see how busy our school library has become during lunch as well as after school! It is important that kids know this is a place to come not only for quiet study and reading time, but also for collaborative work with their peers as well as social time with friends. The students that come to the library during lunch and after school to hang out need things to do - things other than isolating themselves on their phones. What better way to socialize with your friends than playing a game of Chess or Cribbage or getting a group together to play Apples to Apples? It's important to encourage healthy, face-to-face socialization among teens; something that social media simply cannot replace. Quite often I look around the library and I see faces buried in cell phones. The games and puzzles I've selected are meant to promote interaction among the young adults at my school and to give them options for things to do.
