Having technology in the classroom is important but most of all the use of technology can enhance their learning experiences. Technology is life-enhancing, helping people do things that they can not do on their own. The iPad will provide them with optimal learning experiences and help promote independence. Other than a Facebook app my students have no idea how to use technology because the only technology they have access to in their home is a cell phone. My students are unique learners with limited learning experiences outside of the classroom. With that being said we have a limited number of resources in the classroom. We currently have two desktop computers, both of which are at least 10 years old and 5 dictionaries which are more than 10 years outdated. I have 20 student and two computers. Some of my students have physical and visual impairments that make it difficult for them to use a desktop. With an iPad, students will now be able to have access to the accessibility features on an iPad such as voice over, enlarged text and speech to text for those students who have limited motor skills. Having an iPad will allow my students to work collectively in a group, share information, conduct research, create projects and have meaningful discussions. Many of my students have severe reading and writing difficulties however the iPad will allow for them to dictate their writing into text making it easier to express themselves efficiently. Having iPads will help enhance their learning experiences and facilitate independence.
