Students may be more prone to select books with characters that mirror themselves; our population is quite diverse, so it's important to offer titles that reflect not only race and ethnicity but also gender, sexual orientation, religion, geographic origin, to name only a few. The materials loaned, most certainly, will be for students to use at home. The loan period is two-weeks; however, students may renew books many times. Students are encouraged to read for pleasure; this, I believe, leads to life-long learners. Libraries provide an essential service; our patrons, the students, need resources that will empower and prepare them for life in a global society.
