So much of education is about reading. And nobody wants to read a boring textbook. Science used to be about boring research papers and notes and lectures. But not anymore. My goal is to encourage my students to read- and to explore the marvels of the world and the incredible achievements and failures of scientists from the past. For $10 a student, I can build a PHENOMENAL library that will last for years to come, and benefit hundreds of future students. By building a library that students can explore, they can both conduct research for class projects, find reading material for free time, and discover what makes a good scientist- someone who is curious. One of the goals in education is to promote critical thinking. Reading not only encourages creativity, by practicing reading (especially reading they enjoy) students learn to process information and make connections- both skills that will serve them in upper level classes, college, and real life.
