I work in a highly diverse, low income area in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Many of my students are first generation American citizens from low income areas. With this comes the struggles of bilingual education as well as dealing with poverty and systemic racism in every our day to day lives. My goal is to make the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) room a refuge for them. My students are scientists, whether or not they realize it. This is something I tell my students every day. Science is a part of everything we do, from breathing to walking to catching the morning school bus. The science room is a place of learning, but also a place of creativity and exploration. I want to foster both a safe space and love of learning in my room, and I hope that Donor's Choose can help me do that.
