We need new and engaging materials to support our speech and language program. These materials are going to provide my students with opportunities to practice asking and answering, understand figurative language, like idioms, and positively work together. More specifically, these materials will be used in both structured lessons and less formal group activities. We will use language books, aligned with the Common Core, to practice our vocabulary, comparing and contrasting, inference, and summarizing skills. We will use the games like Apples to Apples and Don't Say It, to support and refine our ability to make associations. We'll use Rory's Story Cubes, and the Sequence and Write Story Tiles, to create, write, and revise our own narratives. Finally, we'll use the Thought Bubble Accents, to share the things we want to say with our teachers and peers. By donating to my project, you will be supporting a group of students who often feel like no one is listening to them. When students are engaged, they demonstrate more learning and transferring of skills. Teaching students through games such as 20 Questions for Kids, Blurt, and Figurative Language In A Jar, we increase student engagement. We also increase their attention, interest, and curiosity in learning difficult language concepts including comprehension, metaphors, similies, multiple meaning words and reasoning skills. During speech/language, I provide students the opportunity to reach their greatest communicative potential; an opportunity everyone deserves.
