In third grade, we do a great deal of flexible grouping in reading, writing, and mathematics. A kidney shaped table allows for close proximity between the teacher and students, thus making it easier to hear one another, discuss, share, and literally see each other's work right on the table. During our flexible grouping time, we can read quietly and still manage to hear each other. We can easily see the text on a student's book or their writing progress no matter where they're seated unlike the setup we have currently. Having the dry-erase surface during math allows us to see exactly what students are doing and how they are thinking about math. There are many benefits to having this style of table in a primary classroom. This request for a table will be put to use daily during reading and math and help to establish an atmosphere much more conducive to learning. It will also provide our students with a place where they can effectively learn together as a small collaborative group through teacher lead instruction, interventions, student directed literature circles, and much more! Please consider funding this project. We assure you this table will be used daily during both language arts and math. Thank you so much for your time and commitment to our students and their education!
