In seventh grade Literature and Composition class, we focus on developing claims and supporting them with factual evidence. We emphasize this skill because we know that in the real world, every person should know how to develop an argument or perspective in a logical and intelligent manner. In order to accomplish this, we do a great deal of writing for all purposes, but we spend the majority of our time using textual evidence and researched information from reliable sources to strengthen our points of view. Students need Chromebooks for access to technology to research and to create sophisticated final drafts. I want my students to feel the pride that comes with submitting formal pieces of writing that are created in a manner that prepares them for high school and college. It hurts my heart when I see students failing simply because they do not have access to the technology necessary to conduct research and type essays.
