Please help me to raise money to purchase a classroom library set of books about the American Revolution. These books will accompany our Language Arts unit on the American Revolution. I will be conducting mini lessons on how to read nonfiction. The students will apply these techniques as they use the books for guided reading, independent reading, and group research. This unit will be divided into three sections and the students will be working in pairs and teams. At the end of the first section, they will be creating an informational timeline to explain the events that led up to the Revolutionary War. At the conclusion of the second section, we will divide the class into 2 teams. One side will be the patriots and the other will be the loyalist. The students will use their research to debate if we should go to war. Finally, for the third section, student teams will create a power point and teach their peers about the battles, the Declaration Of Independence, life as a soldier, etc. These books will be used in all of these activities and will help my students to also grow their comprehension and fluency skills. It is awesome to see the students get so excited about nonfiction books. This year, I was able to purchase a few books for this unit. The students devoured these books. The work they produced and the information they gathered was amazing! I have 25 eager to learn 4th graders. I am committed to providing these students with every opportunity possible.
