My students love listening to stories. Adding a listening library to our classroom will build on this excitement, help to develop fluency and promote sight word recognition. Students will remain engaged in their learning while expanding their familiarity with concepts of print. The CD player and audio books will help bridge the gap between where my students are and where they should be. Many of my students have limited access to books at home. Continued exposure to new and familiar words will help students automatically recognize letters, sound and word families. Using the library in addition to other classroom resources will give my students an opportunity to listen to fluent reading multiple times per day.
