My students are amazing artists! They come to me as sixth graders just entering middle school and I work with them through Grade 8. I am fortunate that the students receive rigorous Art training at the Taft Elementary School; the students are enthusiastic and appreciative of their art room experiences. We explore a variety of materials and techniques in order to find out what we enjoy as artists, as well as to eliminate certain media from further consideration. The students work with drawing challenges as well as sculptural explorations. I enjoy teaching Calligraphy to students because I have found that the majority of the kids enjoy exploring this ancient Art form. The problem is that our ink bottles are old and crusty. I spent a bit of time with a student volunteer trying to clean the equipment but new ink bottles and other supplies are necessary for our continued success.
