The reason I am creating this project is to build reader's workshop library. These materials will be used by my students when selecting good-fit books for them and will also give them a variety of books to choose from so they aren't picking the same books over and over again. The book sets will be split up so that students are able to choose books that interest them. I have picked out the carpets squares to give students a comfortable seating option rather than just sitting at their desk. In this project I would also like to "revamp" the way I teach phonics. "Word Their Way" is program that a friend of mine uses and she says it has really helped her students grasp the idea of letter patterns. I have seen the success that this teaching model can bring, but I just don't have the materials in my own classroom to supply the project. I really look forward to starting reader's workshop after Christmas and can't wait to see my students progress! I know it might be discouraging or maybe even challenging to try and start something half-way through the school year, but I think it will be something that my students enjoy and might even be their favorite part of the day!
