This year I want to expand my 5th and 6th graders' application of the design process to 3D design and printing. My students need spools of colored 3D filament for building 3D projects. My school has 3D printers, however we have not been able to purchase the needed filament to put them to use for our STEM students. The filament will allow student ideas to come to life as a physical demonstration of their creativity and design. The students will utilize STEM skills to create 3D projects. They are currently learning 3D design techniques using TinkerCAD on OnShape learning platforms. Careful understanding of design elements and use of measurement will be vital for success. Once the 3D designs are completed on-line the project can be printed on the 3D printer, The students will learn to bring ideas to life as they imagine, draw, design in 3D and print conceptual objects.
