Having calculators in class helps my students understand math. These students will not rely on the calculators but they will use it as a tool for success in their work. Students will be able to check their work, understand if their answer makes sense, and also prove why other answers may be incorrect. Calculators provide essential functions, such as, percentages, square roots, exponents, fractions and decimals. My students will be able to use these calculators daily and they will not have to worry about minor mistakes they may make in their computations. Providing a class set of calculators helps the students practice and prepare for areas in testing where calculators are allowed.
