One unit we teach in 7th grade is on Bacteria and how it relates to the world we live in. The focus is on superbugs, the concern for antibiotic resistant organisms and how we take that back to being a responsible citizen. This can be done through the antibiotics we take to the fertilizers on our crop fields; our use of hand sanitizer to the medications we give out livestock. Being able to visualize what are abstract, unseen organisms brings learning to life and makes it more relevant to student learning. Being able to provide these 3 microscopes will allow the students the chance to see the different organisms we are learning about, the ability to test and sample objects from the world around them, and allow them to process what is happening around them every day. Being able to offer these microscopes as rotating station activities to the students will greatly increase their learning.
