The listening center will be used to expose my students to a variety of fiction and nonfiction text. Due to the students' lack of exposure to different genres, my goal is use literature to aid in exposing students to new topics and vocabulary. The students will learn to work cooperatively in small groups by listening to stories in groups. They will be asked to discuss story elements with their group and the class. This will not only improve their listening skills, but I hope to improve their vocabulary, retelling and comprehension skills. Students will be taught to importance of working collaborative. The reading center rug will help to create a reading area in our classroom. It will provide a comfortable place for the students to sit when working together while listening to stories and sharing their thoughts with each other. To improve phonemic skills the magnetic letter kit will provide students with letters to practice word building, phonemic awareness and spelling skills. Students will also use these letters in the reading center. This will give them an additional resource to practice sight words and vocabulary words introduced in our weekly lessons and audio text. These resources will help to enhance the reading skills for all of the students in my classroom.
