Every student loves recess, and my students are no different. They are imaginative, creative, and adventurous. Recess is that special time of day where my students are able to let loose and express themselves in a way the classroom doesn't allow. But what if recess was a way to develop students' leadership and conflict resolution skills? I believe that the items requested will help my students not only enjoy recess a little more, promote creativity and exploration, but will also hone social emotional learning. At my school character and developing the whole child hold equal weight with academic success. We believe cultivating strong and compassionate interpersonal skills will set our students up for success both in the classroom, and on the the road to and through college. So why not keep this imperative development going at recess?
