Having a class set of The Book Thief will enable my students to participate in a classroom reading, high level analysis and evaluation activities, and class discussions. I chose this book to inspire and challenge my students to love reading and build skills and empathy. The Book Thief is interdisciplinary, allowing for the teaching of historical events along with literacy. The students participate in Literature Circles as they read, researching, analyzing, drawing out textual evidence, creating art, and discussing this amazing book. World War 2 is an important and critical time to study and understand. The world was forever changed because of these events.
