My students need a class set of calculators to practice with trigonometric functions and dry erase markers to practice problems on white boards or their desk. I teach mathematics in a high school where very few students can afford their own calculator. That can make certain topics in both Algebra and Geometry very difficult. We will soon begin working with trigonometric functions in Geometry and without their own calculator, students will have to lug around large charts to find answer to trigonometry problems. Just learning to use these charts will take away from our curriculum and leave us with too little time to learn the actual material.
I have some great ideas on how to use dry erase markers in my classroom. I like having slightly competitive races with white boards and so do the students. I can also have students write their practice problems on their desk which they also enjoy. I also have white boards, not chalk boards, in my classroom so these will help my students show their work on the board for the class without causing frustrations with our dead and dried out markers in the room now.
