I teach students from a lower socio-economic background. They are bright children, but often have wide learning gaps and/or environmental situations that severely limits their learning. The children tend to use a lot of informal/slang language. Most of them are Hispanic and come from homes where Spanish is the dominant language. If English is the primary language, the grammar usage/modeling by their parents is often not at a level that will promote a higher level of achievement in school. My classroom is inclusive, meaning that I collaborate with a Special Education teacher to service children with varying degrees of learning difficulties or physical limitations.
