Our students, from an inner city Kindergarten through 7th grade charter school, are intelligent, energetic, and extremely enthusiastic. They love to move and have a great time playing all types of activities. The school is 90% latino and has great spirit. Coming from the inner city, there are less open parks and thus, fewer opportunities to play in recreational sports where they would thrive in many aspects. The main challenge our students face in these endeavors is the fact that our charter school is without a gym. I, as the Health and P.E. teacher, am forced to take them to the nearby park located two blocks away for any type of vigorous activities. This has obvious downsides including rain, availability, community safety, vandalism, etc.
