The healing benefits of singing together has been proven through research and most importantly through human experience. I see the students' eyes in my general music classes light up when they experience the joy of singing together the songs of our culture. I have seen the power in returning to simple folk songs without fancy electronics, especially in the weeks and months following Hurricane Harvey. A quality acoustic guitar to accompany our music lessons will support my students refining their listening and singing skills. We have been using an old guitar during class this year that does not hold tune and is challenging for me to play. With a new instrument, my students will more fully experience the joy for making music together and connecting with others through this universal form of expression.
