With a new half moon table and chairs small group work for Reading/Writing, Math. Science, and Social Studies will be more beneficial and effective. Currently when the students get split into small groups they are asked to sit on the floor around the teacher. This is not the best learning position as they are distracted by many things. Just two examples are that they knock into each other or focus on the tiny pieces of trash on the floor instead of the lesson. This also does not allow the teacher to easily access each student to help them with their work. With a table, especially shaped like this, each kid will be able to be reached. Group work is especially important in our classroom because it is a inclusive 3rd grade room where about one third of the students are special education students and require small group intervention in the classroom.
