I am requesting 80 tuner/metronomes and contact microphones for our band program of close to 300 students. Our program is growing exponentially every year, resulting in two band directors and two separate band classes meeting at the same time every day. Currently, we have upwards of 60 students in one single class! This is an amazing "problem" to have. However, it is very difficult for one teacher to reach this many students with the amount of individual attention they deserve in every class period. The tuners and contact microphones will allow the students to receive positive individual feedback each class period, resulting in a higher level musician. The microphones will attach to the students instruments so they have the opportunity to see what adjustments they need to make in order to match the pitch of their peers around them. The students will have the knowledge to understand what sort of adjustments they need to make, whether it be through the shape of their mouth or making physical adjustments on their instruments. In addition to the tuner feature, the metronome will be used when the students are practicing on their own by plugging in headphones so they can hear the tempo or beat they should be performing with. This teaches our students responsibility and accountability. This will not only enhance the individual musician but will have a positive impact on the concert performance stage. Our students strive to succeed in class every day. Tuners and contact microphones will help our students develop as individuals, players, become more aware of their listening and reactionary skills, and improve the performance of the band program as a whole.
