I am a Title 1 teacher in a small Midwest town. The students I have are capable of being traditional students, they just need a bit of a jump start to catch up before kindergarten. Some of my children come from lower income families where the parents have to work full time, some times at more than 1 job, just to survive. Although they would love to provide more opportunities for their children, they can't due to lack of time or funds. That's where I come in. The children come and spend a half day with me, catching up on the basics they will need to start kindergarten with a good solid foundation. My hope for them is that they enter kindergarten either on an equal level or slightly above their peers so that they don't spend the next 13 years always just trying to catch up.
