My students move from classroom to classroom throughout the day where most of their time is spent sitting in the same traditional chair/desk/wire basket combo that many of us had in high school. These desks don't allow for flexibility or collaboration; they reinforce the preconditioning of teen slumping, slouching, and sleeping. These seating options will help me design a welcoming and brain-friendly space for today's teenagers. The options to sit in various spaces and positions that don't all feel like "school" will help my students become more engaged and more willing to be in class every day when so many outside distractions work against them.
