Students and their families will be introduced to coding through activities/games that enhance critical thinking skills, such as Scratch, Minecraft, codeSpark academy etc. These programs can be worked on individually or in small groups. For instance, students can be assigned a group task and would be required to work/plan collaboratively to solve the challenge. Further, the goal is to provide students with a certificate of recognition for attending, as well as an "excellent work" pencil, and a reward from the "treasure chest." Also, as a treat, students and parents will be given refreshments as they complete the assigned tasks. Through a family involvement night, parents will be provided with a background on these programs and will have access to Chromebooks to explore these activities further. Also, students will be assigned a challenge to complete and will have an opportunity to further explore/navigate various coding websites/games! This will be a night of tech. fun for students and parents!
