My students are unable to glaze fire their pottery due to the lack of kiln furniture. Glazed pottery needs to be separated and fired on kiln shelves so that the pottery does not stick together. Currently, we are only able to paint the pottery once it has been fired. Glaze firing will allow for the pottery to become more durable. In essence, painting the pottery does not afford the student the opportunity to have the full experience of beginning a master potter. The student must be able to use hot wax, glazes, and the kiln with kiln shelves to glaze fire their works in order to fully understand the process of pottery.
