Having the set of Chromebooks will allow students different structures of learning in my classroom. This project applies all performance expectations in the seventh-grade science classroom within the Next Generation Science Standards. Students will be using Chromebooks to research locations to build and develop a fictitious city.
In their research, they will use Google Maps to identify the ideal location, determine the plate boundaries near the location and what landforms are present, use USGS live earthquake data to forecast future catastrophic events, determine appropriate building materials that can withstand different catastrophic events, and much more. Students will be presenting their findings to the class posing as land developers trying to convince others that the location will pose a minimal threat and an ideal place to live.
In addition to research, students will use the Google suite as a platform to collaborate with their group. They can record notes using Docs, create tables and graphs using Sheets, and create a presentation using Slides.
