I teach 6th-8th Grade Science. Students get the opportunities to learn about science concepts and then experience them through hands on learning. Students do labs that involve them working through the scientific method to solve problems that connects them to their curriculum to have an experience to tie to the concepts they are learning to help them get a deeper understanding of what we are discussing. Students also get chances to experience STEM labs in between units. The STEM labs are designed to have an open ended question presented to the students. Students then are given limitations as to what materials they are allowed to use to solve the problem. Students then plan out how they will use the materials with their team members before any building begins. During the build time, students are collaborating and problem solving. At the end they reflect on their work to decide how their designs could be improved.
