Students will be able to read mathematical situations in story form. Students will see the real-world application of fundamental math principles. Students will have a firm foundation for problem solving as well as the ease of reading mathematical situations. Students should be able to read stories where characters have used subtraction and or addition in order to solve their problem. Literacy is a great way for them to experience situations where measuring helped a character achieve a desired outcome. They must be able to relate to the problems within a fictional text and recognize how this applies to them as students. This will increase their literary skills as well as further their love of mathematics.
