With this iPad, I will be able to download applications that focus on recognizing feelings and emotions, social skills, and independent functioning. My kids have difficulty expressing their feelings, wants, needs and interacting with their peers. They love technology, especially using our mimio. When I am introducing a new concept related to curriculum, I begin with an attention capturing video or song. This gets them engaged, then we make the transition to manipulatives, and differeniated tasks to ensure they are grasping the specific concept. My goal is to introduce these life skills with technology and then translate it to real life. Many times, my kids have difficulty regulating their emotions, having big reactions to small problems which prevents them from focusing on curriculum and what is being asked of them. The more social skills I can teach them, the better prepared they will be to communicate, the better prepared they will be to interact with their peers, the better prepared they will be for life.
