Teaching literacy, I see a need to help students connect with the world in more ways than just paper and pencil. My school has one computer lab with approximately 35 computers to be used by three grade levels. Scheduling can be difficult, especially if more than one day is needed to do such things as research for essays.
Having a class set of Chromebooks with updated technology will help increase the literacy rate of my students as well as increase their desire to learn new material in this technology-literate world. The Chromebooks will allow all of my students the chance to do research and help with spelling as they write essays. Being able to work independently will help my lower readers, as they will be able to use earbuds to audibly access the material and listen to audio books. It will also make showing and sharing their work with me easier, helping them be more academically successful which will, in turn, increase their self-confidence. For my higher level students, they will be able to work at a pace more comfortable for them without feeling they are being held back. I believe this will have a direct effect on alleviating discipline problems across the board.
