Providing students with rich, literary text will enhance their reading experience. By having access to multiple copies of the same text, students can make individual connections to text and then share their thinking with peers in a book club. They will be able to hear others perspectives of story events that will give them opportunities for their thinking to grow and change. As students participate in book clubs they will be intrinsically motivated to develop a deeper love for reading. Reading will encompass more than just reading a book for self enjoyment. They will gain a new purpose to share their enjoyment with each other and give them a chance to dig deeper into the text as they discuss character motivation, ask questions, clarify their thinking and on and on.
