A colored printer will be extremely important in my classroom. Because I work in an Urban district, our rooms are not equipped with such items. I would be able to make and print various resources that would be used as I teach Literacy and Math skills (i.e. picture cards, labels, or manipulatives to be used in the classroom). Using pictures helps my students make connections and build their vocabulary. If we had a colored printer, we would be able to print colored pictures of each child so that they really feel a part of the classroom (and create a class book with pictures of each child working to put in our library). However, what I am really excited about is being able to make colorful games and manipulatives that my children can take home and families can get more engaged in their learning! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to improve and increase family involvement. As I stated, most of my students come from homes that don’t have much, if any educational resources. Sending home the colored games and manipulatives is a great way to also help families be a part of their child’s learning and bridge the connection between home and school. These resources will allow my students and families to work on those foundational skills (i.e. letter recognition/letter sounds, number recognition, color/shape recognition) that are deficient in a fun way. My students will feel even more motivated and my families will feel empowered!
