This project introduces immigrant students to boating in the inner city of Oakland. Students learn about water safety and how to pick and wear a life jacket. They learn what to do if they fall into the lake and how to call for help and wait calmly in the water. They are taught how to paddle a paddle boat and a kayak, and how to row a canoe and a dragon boat safely. This activity provides students physical exercise, on an individual and a group setting using cooperative skills in dragon boats and canoes and individual emphasis when kayaking alone.
