Many of my students have limited resources at home, so it has been my goal to provide enriching experiences in the classroom. Giving low-income students access to hands-on materials is an investment in their future. My students need magnetic building supplies to enhance their understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). In Earth Science, students are asked to design a resolution that reduces the impact of a weather-related hazard, such as flooding or a drought. Students’ understanding and interest deepens with the opportunity to actually build a solution to the problem. Our students will create a model of a village that could reduce the impact of a flood or drought. Magnetic building blocks would provide a hands-on experience that would be sure to excite every learner in the classroom. These materials will serve a dual-purpose in addressing a physical science standard involving relationships of magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other (3-PS2-3).
