As with everything else, Covid 19 has caused a delay in our educational system when it comes to our children. As an early childhood education teacher I see this delay in some of my students first hand each day. I have been teaching for 20 plus years, with 15 years of this being in early childhood education. Before Covid 19, I was able to see our students thrive and advance year after year and now I am watching my students struggle through some of these setbacks. As I continue to teach them through this pandemic, I am always seeking new methods and techniques that can reach my students on their level and help them achieve success at the next level. I am here to focus on what is best for my students that are choosing to attend in person learning at a brick and mortar classroom setting, my classroom. As our community continues to grow and families choose to re-enroll their children into our local schools, our district is not only being impacted by classroom size but we are also seeing a trend with students that are showing significant gaps in their social, emotional, and developmental growth. The gaps in these areas can play a huge role in a child’s academic ability to perform at his or her best in a classroom setting. Therefore, by using both “traditional” and “flexible furniture” for my students, I believe that I can create a classroom that offers a nurturing environment for my students to interact with each other, where my students can feel stimulated to learn, and where my students can feel safe.
