I was amazed to discover that my students had never made butter in their classes. This was something that I remember doing when I was in school and it left an impression on me. What I want to do is to have students use traditional methods and tools, such as the churns requested, to make butter in their classes. I want them to document the physical and chemical changes in cream as they make butter using hand churns. These churns are actually glass jars that have a hand mixing device on them. Students will then be able to see science in action and learn about traditional process of food production. I am very excited about this project.
