Many of my students' families are only able to provide their students with basic supplies at the beginning of the school year, or not at all. Over the months, pencils grow dull, break, or get lost and their erasers get used up. Being that its now the third month of school and supplies are no longer new, each day my students come into class without pencils, or with broken pencils. This leaves them unable to do even the most simple tasks, as they have nothing to write with. My students have to work extraordinarily hard to overcome the challenges that come from attending an underfunded school. While they have become adept at doing so, it becomes nearly impossible to overcome when something as basic as a pencil is missing. Funding this project will allow my students to complete daily journal entires, classwork, tests, and projects.
