Having a set of iPads will allow for my students to use creativity and technology to drive their learning experiences. One way they will be used is for reading and math centers. Students will be able to listen to different stories online using a variety of websites and QR codes. This will really help my bilingual students with their listening and speaking skills. In addition, students will be able to use different computer programs such as Lexia and MobyMax to improve both their reading and math skills. These programs pinpoint areas of student weakness and therefore, students will be practicing skills that they have yet to master. The iPads will also be used as a STEM center. For example, students can look up pictures of catapults and then design their own using nothing more than Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and Pom-poms. This grant will really help to close the technological gap just a little bit more that is lacking in our classroom. My project will make a difference because my students love technology and when students are given an opportunity to work with things that they love and have fun with that is when real learning takes place. In addition, being a bilingual teacher sometimes it is difficult to find resources for bilingual students. Having these iPads will help them with their reading, speaking and listening skills which they need in order to exit out of the bilingual program.
