I love to use lots of visuals in my class to teach French in full immersion; I rarely translate my content into English! I reuse many of my pictures over and over again to recycle and build upon previous learning. However, pictures on a PowerPoint are nowhere near as fun as having kids create cities in 3-D that we can set up as a city to use to practice giving directions! Students can practice adjectives by describing people or animals that they draw in 3-D. In my French 2 classes we learn about popular landmarks in Paris and how to navigate the city by metro. Students can draw a 3-D landmark and we can place them on the metro map to practice giving directions. There are so many practical applications for a 3doodler pen in a world language classroom! STEM tools don't have to stay in a science classroom; with time and a little creativity we can bring STEM into French class. It is always my goal to get my students to speak in the target language as often as possible and giving them thing to discuss that they've created gives them a stake in their education. I want French class to be more than verb conjugations and skits!
