In my class, I encourage all students to be creative and take risks as writers. I use a writers workshop model that has students writing and working on writing goals on a daily basis. In order for my class of 2nd graders to realize their full potential as writers, I want to immerse them in literature that not only inspires them but shows them the process of writing. Having appropriate sized journals that students can write in neatly and be able to erase without destroying their work is important to 2nd graders. Most notebooks that are appropriate for 2nd grade students to write in at the beginning of the year are too expensive for students to bring in as supplies. My class is a mix of regular education students and students with special needs. The literature I am asking for shows students the process of writing, teaches students how to be respectful of others' work, and how to work independently to be the best writers they can be.
