My sixth grade students have difficulty with basic operations but have an understanding of math concepts. The TI-15 calculator has a game mode that allows students to challenge themselves with simple equations using basic operations. This provides the privacy they need to work on a skill in an area of need without the fear of ridicule. Your contribution to this project will not only offer them access to functions on the TI-15 that are not available on a standard calculator, but will also assist in increasing their academic confidence. During advisory, we will work on academic extension activities. They are prepared for content from the seventh grade curriculum, but are apprehensive due to the need for additional assistance with basic skills. They would like to be THE eighth grade Algebra I class in two years.
