I remember the first time I saw a child using an iPad to communicate. She told me her favorite color was purple, she liked Winnie the Pooh, and she had quite the sense of humor! I was left speechless. Communication is a basic human right, and the iPad can pave the way for allowing a child to access communication. Research-based communication applications can be downloaded on to the iPad. They can then be customized to have pictures, icons, and phrases that represent things a child would need to say. The child uses the iPad as their voice, selecting icons to communicate their needs. Help a child gain the opportunity to communicate with the world with 2 iPads and protective cases! This will increase their ability to socialize with their peers, have their needs met, and participate academically. This DonorsChoose.org project will help my non-verbal students communicate with those around them in a meaningful way!
